So while we were in America we visited the Big Apple. I’ve been before, but only for a very brief period.. like not even a full 24 hours in Manhattan, which is most of an overwhelming blur.

When I was a kid, like most kids growing up in small towns with a love of theater, I dreamed of going to New York in college or after for work. I dreamed of living in the city that never sleeps, taking the subway and working crazy jobs with a ton of roommates being awake until the wee hours of the morning. Only to do what I loved and to be on stage or apart of a production in some way.

Needless to say when I grew up I realized that was just the image of NYC the media and society made so appealing to me as a young teen, and reality hit that was NOT what I wanted. It is a lovely city for people who can afford that lifestyle and who enjoy the grimy, smelly subways. Do not let my feelings about this city deter you from visiting. I realize my opinion is not everyone’s and I do enjoy the city, don’t get me wrong, but it has lost all it’s “NY magic” that it once held for me. There are lovely places, people and so much history which is really good to experience.

If you do go, I really recommend to do a City Tour Pass for a few of the attractions. It really saves you so much time in line. We were able to, in the middle of summer, just walk in without having to wait in lines. It was amazing because we were able to accomplish so much more.

Here are some of the things we did while we were there.

Top of the Rock Observatory
9/11 Reflection Pools
Museum of Natural History
Hop on Hop Off Tour Bus
Sex Museum
The Met. Museum of Art
A Schooner Boat Ride at sunset
along with walking about everywhere..

Every moment walking my eyes were not at a loss of things to look at. Every part of Manhattan has it’s on unique flair which I really loved because you can see so much just walking around.

Despite a really uncomfortable and terrible first night at our room in the Bowery House, which led us to looking for accommodation elsewhere, this trip was lovely.

Aside from the spots on the city pass, we wondered around Central Park and indulged in many slices of pizza and many, many bagels. We also walked around the 9/11 site, took the Staten Island Ferry, I was able to see the Hamilton stage door and visit Stonewall.
